The short answer

Every policy has a declarations page. It’s usually the first page. Open yours and look for three lines: personal property, loss of use and liability.

If personal property isn’t there, or it says zero, your stuff isn’t insured.

  • Personal property: a dollar amount that matches your stuff
  • Loss of use (additional living expenses): a dollar amount
  • Liability: $100,000 or more, protecting you
