Our files and tools are a gut check, not financial advice. Some pages may contain affiliate links; they’re always marked, go through theadultfiles.com/go/, and never change what we recommend. We never promote payday loans or predatory lenders.

A gut check, not financial advice

Everything on The Adult Files is general education. The calculators use the money you tell them about and the formulas shown on each tool page. They don’t know your full situation, and they aren’t personalized financial, legal or tax advice. Before a big decision, check the rules where you live and talk to a qualified professional.

Rules differ between the US and Canada, and between states and provinces. Where they differ, our files say so and name the place.

Affiliate links

Some pages may link to products we think are worth a look, like renters insurance or a high-yield savings account. If you sign up through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no cost to you.

  • Affiliate links are always marked on the page, and the page carries a disclosure box.
  • They go through a link on our own domain (theadultfiles.com/go/…) so we can swap or remove a partner in one place.
  • They’re tagged so search engines know they’re sponsored.
  • A commission never changes what a file recommends, and we only include products we’d recommend to a friend.
  • We never include payday loans or predatory lenders. For loans, we only mention mainstream, regulated options, in context.

Right now, no page on the site has affiliate links.

“Compare quotes” cards (renters and tenant insurance)

FILE 002 and the Renters Insurance Checkup can show a “Compare quotes” card with a few insurers or comparison sites for your country. How it works:

  • The card only appears after the file’s advice and checklist, or under your checkup result when you have gaps or no policy. Never above it.
  • The order is fixed by us and never set by how much a partner pays. No partner is labelled “best” or “#1”.
  • Every card carries the disclosure, and every link is marked “Affiliate”.
  • Partners never appear in our videos, our headlines or our short answers.
  • The advice is the same either way: get at least 3 quotes, and check the declarations page before you pay.
